How We Do It

Our first line of defense in mosquito abatement is surveying standing water for mosquito larvae.  We have Field Technicians that look for standing water and check for mosquito larvae.  If larvae is found, the technician will add a larvicide treatment to water to kill mosquito larvae.  One "rack" of mosquito eggs laid in vegetative water can produce up to 300 mosquitoes depending on species.

We have a Trapping Technician that sets traps in specific areas to collect mosquitoes flying over an 18 hour period.   These mosquitoes will be identified and tested for disease.  If we get many calls from an area and if there are  over 25 mosquitoes in a trap in that area, we will determine if ground fogging is necessary.

DCMAD uses an Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) product when conducting ground fogging events to control large amounts of mosquitoes.  When scheduled these events will be dependent on temperature and weather.  All of our products are listed on our SDS Sheet (link).

If our testing shows that we have virus in an area, we will ground fog and larvicide in that area and then trap and retest to see if any more virus exists.

Once we begin our trapping program, we will provide a report on the results of our trappings and results of  our testing on our Trapping and Testing page. (link)
