Mosquito Trapping And Testing

Mosquito surveillance by trapping and testing is a critical component of mosquito abatement. It can help us determine where mosquitoes are coming and by identifying the species in a trap can help us identify the potential for disease transmission in an area.

Once the traps are collected and the mosquitoes are identified, we test the Culex species for West Nile Virus, Western Equine Encephalitis Virus and St. Louis Encephalitis Virus.

If our test is positive for any disease, we will adulticide (ground and aerial fog) the area and check and treat any standing water. Then we will retest to make sure there isn’t any remaining disease.

Once our trapping and testing program begins, normally around May, we will publish the results of the trapping and the tests on this page.
Disease notification will be shown on the front page of this website and our app.
